Family C
Short video of one Russian immigrant's story.
The Yeltsin Family
Back: Petro (father)
Front: Olga (mother), Larissa, Aleksei, Malsim, Sergei
Arrived in Canada: 1906
Homeland: Russia
Father's occupation: Shoemaker
Why did they come to Canada: Russia, at this time, was very strict. People had little freedom and many lived in poverty. Petro wanted a better life for his family. He chose to move to a region that had a similar climate to the one he left in Russia. He wanted his children to have freedom of choice in Canada.
