Your assignment is to write a story about your immigrant family's new life in your region. You will use details, facts and photographs from the time period to create a work of historical fiction. You will plan your story out using a story map organizer (see Resources page) and focus on a problem that your main character is facing. The story should have action and the problem should be solved at the end.

 

​You will need to focus on the following in your story:

• Quality of life

• Jobs/industry

• Education

• Leisure time

• History of why your family came to Canada in the first place

• Physical features of your region

• Weather/climate

• Extra information about your region

 

Criteria for a historical fiction story:

• Beginning, middle and end

• Correct spelling and grammar

• Interesting words

• Makes sense to the time period

• Accurate facts

• Interesting characters

• Action (the story has a problem the protagonist has to solve)

• Descriptive
